After hitting four major cities, Fashion Week is finally over and the designers have spoken. From New York’s runways, to the catwalks in Paris, there were definitely some ideas we can only expect to see more of. I’ve decided to highlight five trends that will keep you thinking fashion forward for Spring 2014.
1. Crop tops: Ladies, midriff is here to stay. This trend has been around for a couple of seasons now, and it’s not going anywhere any time soon. Whether exposing the entire stomach or a simple sliver, mid sections were on display. Many of us off the runway don’t have washboard abs. But, that’s no reason to shy away from this fun piece! Try pairing with other trends like wide legged or high-waisted pants, which should sit at your waist, right under your ribs. Matched with a crop top the feel is classy and chic but still sexy.

2. “Art School”: Lady Gaga was onto something when she named her most recent album ARTPOP. This was one of the more recognizable trends to hit Fashion Week, with rich, bright, dramatic colors splashing across pieces all over the runways like Chanel, Celine and Prada. Between graphic prints and patterns, bold statements were made. Strong artistic designs were everywhere and not necessarily all on one piece. The fun thing about this trend is that you can wear it totally depending on your style and creativity!
3. Tea-length skirts: A very popular style in the 1940’s up until the early 1960’s is finally coming back! The romantic, ladylike skirt creates a full silhouette, which end at your mid-calf is appropriate for multiple occasions. Though it may seem characteristically formal, it’s simple and easy to style down. While wearing a mini skirt may be more suitable for a night out, a tea length skirt captures the womanly moment. Showing some ankle can be just as alluring.
4. Wide legged pants: From oxfords to heels, this type of pants can be matched with any type of shoe. What else is fun about this trend is that you can match it with so many different types of tops. Button down shirts, cropped moto jackets and also, crop tops, the possibilities are endless. This trend is comfortable and stylish, making it an easy go-to decision this spring. For shorter women, high waisted and wide legged may be the way to go.
5. Pastels: It is spring time, so it’s not a huge shocker that, like florals, pastel colors were popping up all over the runways. Springtime shades like mint green, lilac and sky blue were represented in Burberry’s show, as well as Christoper Kane’s. The pastel color way is clean, sweet and feminine. You can either play it up in your outfit or tone it down by contrasting with harder, more powerful, pieces.
