I know I am not alone as so many of us have spring cleaning to do. After all, each spring this topic becomes the buzz. All the magazines publish how to organize our homes and purge our closets, but what else needs this? If you read my last blog you know that I have been going through my own very intense and physical cleanse the last couple of weeks. The slow, gradual release of built up toxins in my system was painful and nauseating.
It prompted me to think, what else needs to be released? What have I been holding on to that no longer serves me? Interesting enough, at the beginning of my yoga class the other day the teacher opened with a discussion about transition. Transition can cause us to react in a range of ways. Sometimes it’s hard to release our ideas, habits, and objects and allow things in our life to change.
The example she gave was a tree. It willingly releases its leaves in the fall, storing its energy in the winter, and then welcoming new leaves to grow in the warm months. How similar are we? In order to grow and be nurtured, we not only must release something but be open to what allows us to grow.
This may be an object or a fixed idea. I own many things that whenever I look at them I am reminded of the person who gave them to me. Somehow, no matter how much love was behind the gift at the time it was given, when I look at these things now, I am only reminded of how the relationship ended and sadness comes over me.
Of course objects only have the meaning we give them. Even though I had high hopes that I would be able to change the way I look at these objects or somehow the memories would fade away, they haven’t. So, I decided to get rid of these things and clear some space for new growth.
Spring sparks new energy in us and the world around us. The spring equinox is March 20th. It’s coupled with a new moon solar eclipse. How amazing is it that the day of the new season is also marked by a new moon and eclipse, all symbolic of new beginnings?
What new beginnings do you hope for? Have you cleared space to allow this to happen? What needs to be released in order for growth? I encourage you to embrace whatever may begin or end for you as we enter spring. Flow with the transition no matter how uncomfortable and move forward with innocent curiosity as the inevitable unfolds before you.
In love and Health,
