Bound has several meanings like so many words in the English language. It can mean to move by leaps and jumps. You can bind the body in a yoga pose. It is also the past tense of the verb to bind which also has many meanings such as to fasten or secure with a band or bond, to encircle with a band or ligature, to swathe or bandage, to fasten around or fix in place, to tie up, to cause to cohere, to unite by any legal or moral tie, to become compact or solid, to be obligatory, to chafe or restrict, a difficult situation or predicament …
So, why do I bring this up? Right now I am experiencing a very bloated belly, on top of some hormonal shifts, and recovering from a few weeks of being run down from the nice little cold virus that’s been going around. The worst part now is really my stomach because it feels like its stuck and unable to move.
I’m bound up inside. The doctor in me knows how hormones can affect smooth muscle contraction of the GI tract, but it’s been weeks of struggling now. I’ve tried everything from hydration, concentrated aloe, my usual high fiber diet and probiotics to gallons of prune juice, lemon juice, and now Triphala. I even added some over the counter drug store remedies to the mix.
The result has been dismal with, for the most part, just more belly expansion. So I began to look deeper as to the cause, challenging my medical brain with the holistic metaphysical aspects of life. I turned to Louise Hay. My symptoms according to her list can be related to having fixed ideas in the past, or stinginess.
Think about this good doctor. What ideas need to shift that may help relieve this discomfort? Is it the constant budgeting of income to go towards home renovations, and not much fun? Is it some uncomfortable reminders of past experiences or relationships that are upsetting me?
Has this ever happened to you?
Today I awoke in more discomfort than ever. Tears actually flowed. I swore that today would be the day of shifting into a better more soothing place. I added my natural and not so natural “unbinding” remedies to my morning intake, and then mediated.
My focus was to detoxify my mind, body, and spirit and replace it with love, joy, abundance, gratitude, and peace. The realization here is that sometimes our subconscious may take us back to a place that no longer serves us. As challenging as it is, we must try to be in the moment. Realize that there is truly only one thing to do or think about at a time. To be at peace and feel joy every moment isn’t always possible. After all, we have a litany of emotions within us for a reason. For example, to know happiness you must also have felt sadness.
So, today I had one focus…to unbind my core and feel better. Know that to shift sometimes we need a push and sometimes a pull, or maybe both. I looked outside and enjoyed the 6 inches of new fallen snow on my beautiful yard, listened to a child’s laughter, and felt incredible peace when a large piece of dark furniture was moved to a different room. This last effort created a huge open walkway and brightened the room immensely.
Magically I am now feeling small shifts within. With each effort to focus on the moment and the happy things that are soon to come like longer, warmer, and sunny spring days, the bind within loosens like pulling a lace to untie a shoe.
What comes to mind for you? I am open to your comments and suggestions.
