Knowing more about the person delivering your baby is essential. Not only because you want to make sure that you're getting everything that you can, but also because you want to ensure that you know who they are, you want to trust them and you want to have a person that understands what you're going through.
A lot of women choose to work with midwives over obstetricians for the simple fact that they are able to get support while also working with a qualified professional that can deliver their baby for them. Midwives are generally women that have gone through the right schooling, been there in labor and delivery previously for both themselves and someone else and they also understand the importance of the woman being able to do this on her own without having to rely on drugs and chemicals in her body that can cycle through to the baby.
If you're unsure of which to use, you can speak with a few different types and then make your own decision. Let your birth plan be known so you can find out who may or may not follow the plan. Meeting them before the arrival and letting them take care of your pre-natal needs can put your mind at ease when it comes down to it.
