Maybe the month of May just has me feeling hopeful, but I just have this desire to accept and experience all there is to offer. So I offer you this - GET OUT! Get out of your head, get out of your own way, get out of your house or apartment! Take your practice outside. Seriously! We have been waiting months for beautiful weather and it's time to enjoy it.
Though there are times you may not feel like you are in control, you always have a choice. Choose happiness, choose vitality, choose love. Open your heart first to yourself, and then to those closest to you. Continue opening up until you embrace all. Yes, it is possible to feel that much love. Opportunities have been showing up and I keep choosing what makes me truly happy. I experience moments of frustration and pain, but I do the work so these moments pass swiftly and I continue through the ebb and flow.
Whatever has been happening, if you've been suffering or coasting through the days, enough! It's time to choose something new, and your yoga practice will assist you. Reconnect to your breath, do a gentle flow on your mat, or take a walk and focus on the things outside yourself not the thoughts in your head. If thoughts arise wrap them in a delicate bubble and imagine them floating away. No judgments, no opinions. Allow your inner child to come out and play, climb a tree or skip down the street. Taking an action will shift something, don't get stuck inside. Let go and get out!
"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured." - B.K.S Iyengar
Challenge:
Pick a practice and stick to it for 5 days. Try and do it at the same time every day. The practice can be anything you choose, but here are some ideas:
- Sit in stillness for 5 minutes and focus on your breath.
- Take a walk, for no purpose other than to walk.
- Practice Sun Salutations, Surya Namaskar for 5 minutes.
- Write in your journal.
- Make a conscious effort to go out of your way for someone else.
