Part of me still can’t believe that summer is actually here. Finally the layers are coming off, the winter coat is going back into storage and your arms are bare again. It has been such a brutal winter. Congratulations to everyone for making it through; it was a rough one. The trickiest part about the summertime, especially after such a horrendously cold season, is that we are expected to look beach ready as soon as the sun starts to really shine. Well that is definitely not always the case. In addition to some cute trends that will be popping up all over the beaches, I’ve also included some ideas on how to look great in any type of bathing suit.
The classic string bikini, what else is there to say? In solids or patterns, dark or bright colors, this kind of bathing suit will never go out of style. The greatest thing about this simple bikini is that there are endless options. Have a bandeaux top and go strapless. Use color to bring attention where you want it. Mix and match! Busy bottoms (like ruffles) will draw the eye down. If you want some noise up top (maybe some fringe), make sure the bottom is slightly quieter. The bolder the color, the more interesting the print, the more that part of the bathing suit will become the focal point and draw the eye in, so have fun with it.
And guess what else ladies, the one piece is making a HUGE splash in the pool this season. Try a one piece with 1 shoulder or a solid color with some ruching to create a flattering figure. This is a great way to bring the eye upwards towards your face. Better yet try on a one piece that color blocks or with cut outs!
Color blocking in outfits (and bathing suits) is when you use color to bring attention where you want it. It is very flattering because it outlines your body’s natural curves. The strategy of color blocking can be used universally. Likewise, it can be used with prints and cut outs. Though they may use different ways to go about this technique, the overall effect is exactly the same.
Cut outs are visually stimulating and are a great way to stay covered but still show a little something. They are more fun because you are using your skin instead of another color to create the “blocking effect”. It is sexy and you can flaunt what you got without feeling totally naked.

High-waisted bottoms automatically make me think of the 1950’s and I love it. This style is so retro, but truly amazing for so many different body types. High waisted pants were something we saw walking down the runway during fashion week, and it is something you will definitely see walking down the shore as well. Like the pants, this style creates a silhouette that is flattering and accentuates the curves because it hits at the smallest part of your body, your waist. Sometimes hiding a little bit more makes it that much more compelling. Give it a try and see what you think!
